Oh Hey World is built upon the premise that the first thing you do when you arrive in any location is check-in with someone. That someone could be your parents, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife, children, or best friend — or any combination of those segments. There are always people that care where you are, even if you don’t think they do. We’re making it super simple to make sure everyone that cares about you knows exactly where you are. Notifying 5 people should be done with one click rather than 3 emails and 2 text messages.
Below is everything you need to know about checking-in on Oh Hey World…
Location Format
Your location should always be in the following format when you check-in
- Within United States: “City, State”
- Abroad: “City, Country”
Examples:
- “Seattle, WA”
- “Barcelona, Spain”
Check-in Methods
1. Web: You can always check-in from the web site by using the “check-in” link in the navigation. The current beta site is located at beta.ohheyworld.com
Notifications: Your default notifications settings will auto-fill, but you can change your notifications on a check-in by check-in basis from the web interface.
2. Text message (SMS): Send your location via SMS to 502-413-2629
This feature is built for the traveler abroad without data on their phone (or who don’t wish to use & pay for it), who wants to send one text to notify all their loved ones that they’ve arrived safely (and share their check-in on Twitter & Facebook).
Notifications: Your default notification settings will be used, with no option to change them on a check-in by check-in basis. Those can be changed at any time from your user settings screen. Make sure you set your default settings correctly ahead of time before using this feature.
Needed setup: You must input the phone number you will be texting from ahead of time by editing your profile. Country code is a required field. If your number is not added to your profile page, we won’t be able to match the text we receive from you to your profile.
3. Email: Send your location via email to checkin@ohheyworld.com
This feature is built for the traveler who wants to save time by sending one email to notify all their loved ones that they’ve arrived safely (and share their check-in on Twitter & Facebook) rather than going through the process of emailing and texting everyone individually. Or for the traveler who has email on their phone, but not complete data access to use the website.
Notifications: Your default notification settings will be used, with no option to change them on a check-in by check-in basis. Those can be changed at any time from your user settings screen. Make sure you set your default settings correctly ahead of time before using this feature.
Needed setup: You must email Oh Hey World from the email address listed in your profile. Otherwise, we have no way to match to location contained in your email with your profile.
iPhone App (not functional yet): We’re early in the process of building a iOS app for those Apple lovers. If you have an iPhone and are interested in being a beta tester, please send an email to drew@ohheyworld.com
Android (planned, but not started): We plan on building a native Android app, but that development work is not near the top of our priority list right now.
